VW ID 3 GTX Fire+Ice – Limited-Edition EVs

Volkswagen is planning to launch low-volume specials across its ID range to increase the appeal of its EVs. It did a similar thing with previous ICE models.

The first will be the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice, an electric reincarnation of the Golf Fire+Ice.

This one-off concept is based on the ID.3 GTX Performance. VW says it shows how specials, like 1994’s Golf Pink Floyd, could work with today’s electric cars. The Golf PF was based on the Mk3 Golf but featured unique paintwork and gave the brand good exposure.

The Fire+Ice concept is similar, mimicking some of the original design cues of the 1990 limited-edition Golf. VW made this in partnership with German sportswear company Bögner.

The German car maker planned a production run of 10,000 cars but extended that to 16,700 eventually.

Andreas Mindt, head of design at Volkswagen, said the team reinterpreted that original design and took it further. 

There’s a triple-layer Electric Violet Pearl Effect exterior paint treatment, along with matte Fire+Ice graphics and a contrasting red strip within the side roofline. 

It also has new 21-inch alloy wheels with a blue anodised finish. Bögner’s original Fire+Ice logo from the 1990s can be found on the B-pillar and roof spoiler.

The interior retains the look and features of the standard car but adds Flaming Red (for Fire) and Ice Blue (for Ice) elements within the seats. Its front seats are quilted in a design similar to the original Bogner Fire+Ice down jackets.
