Subway to install EV charging stations at restaurants

Subway, known for its healthy range of sandwiches, is planning to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at its restaurants so its diners can recharge in more ways than one.

The fast food chain is partnering with GenZ EV Solutions to create what the pair are calling an EV Charging Oasis of the future at select locations across the US.

Multiple car charging ports will be available for customers to use along with picnic tables, restrooms, Wi-Fi, green spaces, and playgrounds.

The charging network will be managed by Red E Charging who will provide the software and operating expertise needed to improve reliability and uptime.

Subway will also introduce smaller EV charging stations at its other sites in the future.

“Our partnership with GenZ EV Solutions is a win for our guests, our franchisees and our planet, creating a dedicated space for drivers to charge their vehicle while enjoying their favorite Subway sandwich,” said Mike Kappitt, Chief Operating and Insights Officer of Subway.

This isn’t the first time a fast food brand has introduced EV charging to its sites considering Taco Bell began rolling out stations at select US locations late last year.

Subway’s initiative is also only stateside for the time being, with the company rolling out its EV Charging Oasis sites later this year.

As for New Zealand, various shopping centres and supermarkets like New World have installed charging stations on their premises across the country but a fast food company has yet to do so.
