Ford to pit SuperVan against Australia’s toughest race track

Fans in attendance of this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour can expect a little something extra for their admission as Ford will be there to pit its outrageous Transit SuperVan 4.2 against the twists and turns of Mount Panorama.

It won’t quite go head-to-head with the GT race cars that’ll be taking part in the endurance race that weekend, but it will take to the mountain for a series of demonstration runs at the hands of French racing driver Romain Dumas.

If you weren’t already aware, Dumas took the helm of the SuperVan at the notorious Pikes Peak International Hillclimb in the United States last year where he set a handful of new records, including the fastest Open Class time.

Helping him do so was the Transit’s fully electric triple e-motor drivetrain which produces an obscene 1050kW. Believe it or not, that’s after Ford removed one motor to reduce weight.

With that being said, the SuperVan should be a flyer at Bathurst, although it won’t be going for any new records this time around.

“SuperVan 4.2 will take on the challenge of Mount Panorama in the same configuration it raced in at Pikes Peak – as the ultimate expression of what is possible with electric performance and Ford’s EV technology,” said Mark Rushbrook, Global Director, Ford Performance Motorsports.

“Mount Panorama stands tall as the ultimate motorsport challenge in Australia, and we are excited to see SuperVan 4.2 attack its legendary twists and turns.”

The 2024 Bathurst 12 Hour is all set for the weekend of February 16 to 18.
