Cupra teases its new Terramar Medium SUV

The new Cupra Terramar we previewed a month ago. It is the Terraco replacement. And it is also an electrified sports SUV that pays homage to the Terramar circuit. The latter is short for Autódromo de Sitges-Terramar racing circuit in Martorell, Spain. It lies southwest of Barcelona, near the popular seaside resort of Sitges.

Terramar is a product of Cupra’s bold new design language. The teaser image shows only a triangular shaped taillight, as found on others in the Cupra line-up. The car itself will also feature a long bonnet, and shark nose, similar to other Cupras.

Terramar officially launches at the beginning of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona. The premiere of the vehicle takes place on September 3rd. Terramar is also the official car of the sailing regatta.

Details of the new Cupra will be displayed on the official Barcelona Beach timer, along with results of the races.

The 4.5m long Terramar is competing in the fastest growing segment in Europe and will take on the likes of new Peugeot 3008 and Mini Countryman, along with the facelifted Kia Sportage.

Featuring a confident look, Terramar integrates the next generation of eHybrid technology, more digitalisation and sustainability features, while enhancing driving performance.

Few details are available as yet, though this is said to be the last new Cupra to launch with a petrol powertrain. Expect a 1.5L mild-hybrid eTSI mill with 110kW, and a four-pot 2.0L engined with up to 195kW. There will also be a PHEV version with an electric driving range of around 100km.

Underpinning Terramar is the platform that supports the Volkswagen Tiguan and next-gen Audi Q3.
